Patrons of the Underground,

We’re looking for a new Vampire Canon and Continuity Storyteller. If you’re looking to get more involved in our organization, please consider volunteering!

The Vampire Canon and Continuity Storyteller serves to track character relationships and usage for all canon and national-level NPCs in the Vampire Venue. The CCST also tracks the usage of geographic areas not under the authority of a local troupe and maintains a general history of the chronicle. The CCST is responsible for generating a monthly “what’s happened” report by contacting the troupe LSTs org-wide. Finally, the CCST works with the Vampire Organizational Storytellers in the management and implementation of all canon NPCs, as well as NPCs or institutions whose actions have a massive effect above the city level of the troupe (such as The President of the United States, The Chancellor of Germany, the FBI, or the CIA). The CCST is responsible for periodic audits of the in-character groups for membership and demographic purposes, and other duties as assigned by the Vice President.

Travel requirements – The Vampire CCST is strongly encouraged to attend all national events and to offer support to regional events where possible.

Time expectations – The estimated workload of this position is 15-20 hours per week.

Other considerations – The Vampire CCST may not hold a larger-than-local IC position, nor a major city leadership position (Prince, Baron), and should expect to have their PC transition into a background ancillary role if hired.

Please send your gaming resume (including both player and storyteller experience) to vicepresident@undergroundtheater.org

Now that Amber Godat has selfishly abandoned her post as Secretary and followed her masochistic desires into the role of President, our board of directors needs to fill the incredibly important position of Secretary.

General Description: The Secretary of Underground Theater is a board of director position that serves a managerial role that collects, organizes, and maintains much of the organization’s business as well assists in helping staff keep up on tasks.

Accountability: The Secretary is directly accountable to the Board of Directors. Certain duties of the Secretary may be delegated to other Board Members, and/or committees as appropriate; however, the accountability for them remains with the Secretary.

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule, setup, invite all parties to, attend and direct all meetings of the Board of Directors. Meetings are usually held once per week, and are conducted electronically via a recorded Google Hangouts session.

  • Maintain the list of contact information for all Board Members and Administrators that is stored in the Board’s shared Google Drive.

  • Hire and supervise a minimum of one administrator to function within the office as necessity dictates and archive all monthly Administrator reports from his/her staff for archival purposes.

Applicants must have experience in a corporate setting in which confidentiality was required. Finally, applicants must be able to stay extremely organized and possess the ability to follow through with assignments regardless of tight or erratic timelines.

  • The Secretary must have reliable telephone and internet service, with reliable access to a computer that can run Google Hangouts via video.

  • The Secretary must have a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and Google Documents.

In addition, the Director of Communications is looking for a few admins to help! As we’ve grown, it’s just no longer a workload one person can handle, and there is a great opportunity for us to begin some new projects!

Social Media Administrator will be in charge of secondary communications for Twitter and Facebook. The SMA will create content for enriching, building and promoting our community through regular Tweets and Posts on a variety of topics that are related to White Wolf, By Night Studios, Underground Theater and general genre-related media. Local Marketing Administrator will be in charge of creating marketing collateral for use at the local troupe level for promoting games. The LMA will create flyers, posters, graphics and logos supporting Underground Theater troupes. Applicant must posses layout and design skills, strong spelling skills, an understanding of marketing/advertising strategy, appropriate computer software and an attention to detail and deadlines.

Cultural Attache will be in charge of helping to decipher, read and gauge the strengths and weaknesses of the Underground Theater patronage culture as a whole. The CA will also help to develop action plans to address opportunities for the organization’s culture to be improved upon and enriched. Areas of social focus may include respect, cordiality and kindness as well as difficult topics such as inclusion, discrimination and bleed. Areas of procedural focus may include identifying communication opportunities, integration and involvement of new chronicles/patrons and developing workshop opportunities for players and storytellers to grow their skills. Applicant must be outgoing, possess great communication and empathy skills and people-reading abilities. Ideal candidates will also possess planning and strategy skills.

Good afternoon Patrons of the Underground!

We are sad to announce that our Ombudsman, Sean Noble, is needing to step down from our board of directors because of real life commitments. We wish him all the best and can’t wait to see him playing at Midwinter!

Unfortunately, that means we are in need of a new Ombudsman! Are you kind, willing to work with others and have experience in dispute resolution? We’d love to hear from anyone with interest in filling this role.

In the interim, please give us a bit of understanding, and if you have an unresolved concern that you have submitted to the Ombudsman, we encourage you to drop a follow up email to the Board just to help us ensure we don’t drop any balls and no concerns fall through the cracks during the transition.

Here are some of the job requirements:

  • The Ombudsman works as an independent neutral party who assists in the resolution of conflicts and concerns either between patrons (after all local staff options are exhausted) or between patrons and local staff when there is no other option. The Ombudsman will act as the Board contact for patrons throughout Underground Theater.
  • The Ombudsman’s office is responsible for managing the filing of all issues sent to them in a system that has been set up such that all Board members may reference it as needed. The Ombudsman may need to oversee at least one assistant to his office who’s sole duty is to input the details of resolved issues into the filing system.
  • The Ombudsman will also help identify issues in policies, processes and procedures that need attention, including their implementation and documentation.
  • He or she will serve as an instrumental piece of the arbitration, player retention and recruitment processes (they may wish to appoint an admin to work with them on such), and shall perform such additional duties as may be required of the office.
  • Attend a weekly board meeting at 7pm EST.
  • He or she may also install additional administrators to those already mentioned at his or her leisure under the office of Ombudsman.

Please send your resume and a gaming experience summary to: bod@undergroundtheater.org.

Thanks!

Hello patrons of the Underground!

This is your acceptably sociable Chief of Technology here. The next version of Yorick is going to be huge, so I’m looking for people to help me get it to the finish line. I’m going to detail some specific roles that I’m trying to get filled. Anybody that’s interested in the positions I’m describing please email me.  Do not contact me on Facebook. I do my UT development work over email and GitHub.

The one basic requirement for anyone interested in helping is:

  • You must have an account on GitHub. All of the development work and project management is at https://github.com/gnu-lorien/yorick and you need to be able to use this tool in order to help me.

Positions Needed

QA Tester

I’m upending a lot of stuff right now. QA Testing involves the following:

  • Watching the GitHub commits to know when a new version is updated and ready for testing.
  • Find bugs in new features that are being added.
  • Go through the bugs on the github page and triage them.
  • Regression test existing features and common bugs.
  • Document common misconceptions and workarounds on the wiki.
  • File bugs on github that have all of the pertinent details.

You’ll need a strong knowledge of the rules for either Vampire: The Masquerade or Werewolf: The Apocalypse to verify that things are working as expected. Anybody that falls into this role will ultimately have to test characters from all of the venues we support since I need regression testing.

I’m going be flexible initially when officially bringing people into this role, but I’m going to be very harsh if the bugs filed aren’t well-written or useful. I don’t have my own writing bugs guide yet, but here’s a good one to start with: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/QA/Bug_writing_guidelines. If that all sounds like too much work, please don’t apply.

Documentation

There’s a strong need for somebody to make the wiki here https://github.com/gnu-lorien/yorick/wiki actually useful for helping people get started with and troubleshooting their experience with Yorick. The best starting point is probably to go through the Yorick Help Group on  Facebook and write a set of guides that answers the most common questions asked in that group.

Software Engineer

Yorick is a javascript application using Backbone, Marionette, RequireJS and Parse on the client front-end which connects to a Parse Server backend that runs on nodejs.

If you understand any part of what I just said and are interested in contributing please contact me as soon as possible.

Thanks!

Chief of Technology

Patrons of the Underground,

As many of you are already aware, Jason Hughes is leaving the position of Vampire Camarilla/Anarch/Independent Alliance Organizational Storyteller. Jason has done an incredible job, and we are so thankful for all of the work that he has done to help us make Underground Theater successful!

Unfortunately, that means we have to attempt to replace him.

The Camarilla/Anarch/Independent Alliance Organizational Storyteller is the primary point of contact for all Lead Storytellers in the Cam/Anarch/IA Venue for Underground Theater. Any Cam/Anarch/IA Lead Storyteller may reach out to the Cam/Anarch/IA OST to receive clarification on rules questions from the content management team or for assistance in plots. The OST works with LSTs to prepare selected plots for elevation to a regional, national or organizational level story. The OST also works with the Vampire Canon and Continuity Storyteller in the management and implementation of all canon NPCs, as well as NPCs or institutions whose actions have a massive effect above the city level of the troupe (such as The President of the United States, The Chancellor of Germany, the FBI, or the CIA). The OST is also responsible for the creation and running of the Cam/Anarch/IA Venue’s five year national plot, attending regular Content Team meetings with the Content Team, overseeing the Anarch and Independent Alliance Assistant OSTs, and other duties as assigned by the Vice President.

Travel requirements – The Cam/Anarch/IA OST is expected to attend all national events, and to offer support to regional events where possible.

Time expectations – The estimated workload of this position is 20-30 hours per week.

Other considerations – The Cam/Anarch/IA OST may not hold a larger-than-local IC position, nor a major city leadership position (Prince, Baron, Don, etc), and should expect to have their PC transition into a background ancillary role if hired.

If you are interested in applying for the position, please send your gaming resume to Mike Rilee, our Vice President.
